A three term, advanced practical course aimed at experienced gardeners who wish to start or expand their gardening business, are employed in a supervisory capacity or are owner-managers of large gardens. This course will meet one morning per week and particpants will develop advanced horticulture and management skills in pruning, garden planning and planting, plant identification and selection, running and managing a gardening business

Extended pruning skills in a wide range of ornamental and fruit species
Propagation and growing perennials from seed
Plant identification and selection: trees, shrubs, herbaceous perennials, annuals, aquatics, bulbs
Identification of pests and diseases
Production of client reports following garden assessment
Estimating and scheduling of projects
Effective tool use and care including sharpening of handtools.
Gardening, horticulture and the law: good practice and regulations relevant to a commercial gardening business

Entry Requirements

This course is for those with good horticultural skills who are working in or intending to work in the amenity horticulture or commercial gardening sector. Previous completion of a level 2 practical course or proven equivalent skills will be required. Tetanus protection is recommended
