This one year course is designed for those that have some experience of equitation and horse care and is an ideal introduction for school leavers wishing to pursue a career working with horses.

Kingston Maurward College has excellent facilities and well qualified staff which combine to develop your knowledge and skills, equipping you for a rewarding career in the equine industry.
Included in the course is practical instruction and theory sessions. You will be involved in the daily care of the horses during yard duties on our own yard and off site work experience within the industry to gain plenty of practical experience and valuable employment skills vital for progression after you studies.
As a British Horse Society (BHS) examination centre, we encourage students to take relevant exams and course content is applicable to the BHS exam system. Additional costs apply and applications should be made direct to the BHS.
Where possible, trips to Badminton Horse Trials, Olympia etc. will be arranged (additional cost involved). There are also visiting speakers, masterclasses and visits to a variety of equine establishments.

Course Content

Units include:
Equine health and welfare
Working in the Equine industry which will include 1 day a week at an external work placement.
Horse tack and equipment
Routine stable duties
The principles of feeding and watering horses
Horse handling and grooming
Introduction to lungeing horses
Riding horses under supervision
Equine health and safety
