Course Title: Level 2 Golf Greenkeeper
Course Code: HR191
This course is ideal if you want to work in the Golf Greenkeeping industry. It provides you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for you to progress your career.
You will be required to undertake and have an understanding of a number of different core skills, knowledge and behaviours in order to complete this apprenticeship. These include:
Preparing the golf course for play
Preparing and using specialist equipment to maintain and renovate turf surfaces
Applying turf treatments and controlling weeds, fungal diseases, pests and turf disorders
Maintaining and renovating bunkers
Maintaining drainage and irrigation systems
How to identify plants and trees
Soil and plant biology
Basic computer skills
If you do not already hold Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English (GCSE grade 2 or E), you will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English prior to taking the end-point assessment.
This standard is recognised by the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), the Professional Body for Greenkeepers. At the start of the apprenticeship the apprentice will be registered with BIGGA. Upon completion of this standard the apprentice will be eligible to join BIGGA as a full member and become a BIGGA Accredited Greenkeeper.
You will be required to attend college one day a week.
GCSE grade 2 or E in maths and English or level 1 functional skills in maths and English.
Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will undertake an initial assessment in maths and English regardless of previous qualifications.
You must be working under a suitable and relevant contract of employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week. If you do not have an employer, we may be able to help you find one.
You will have the opportunity to progress on to a higher level apprenticeship standard or to continue working within the industry.
Job opportunities will be enhanced for those apprentices who have completed the programme with promotion to more senior positions within a golf club facility or the option to progress by working in other sports facilities such as a Grounds Maintenance Operator/Technician.

Suitable work clothes and steel toe-capped safety boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor.
