The course uses a mixture of practical and theory sessions plus online tests and practical assessments, designed to cover a diverse range of topics reflecting the local industry requirements. The extensive Kingston Maurward campus gives plenty of scope for real practical projects.

Units include: Building methods, materials and technology Building repairs Painting and decorating Plastering Plumbing Carpentry Health and safety Opportunity to work towards a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card Relevant work experience. English and maths £50 annual contribution towards materials.

Next Steps

4 GCSEs minimum grade 3/2 or D/E, including English and maths OR Functional Skills at Level 1 OR a Level 1 qualification in construction or related area OR mature applicants with related practical experience. Applicants without formal construction qualifications will be asked to take part in a practical skills assessment at interview. You will need energy and enthusiasm for construction and will be required to complete a work placement within the industry. Tetanus protection is recommended.
