Combining a mixture of theory and practical, this is a very hands-on qualification ideally suited to someone who wishes to investigate a career in horticulture and perhaps study further. No previous knowledge is required, but a willingness to learn new skills and develop knowledge of the world of horticulture is needed. You will be taught with like-minded learners with the same interest in the outdoors and gardening where you will develop your personal and social skills. Course Content

Units include: Growing trees and shrubs (selection, establishment, care and maintenance) Growing flowers (herbaceous and annual plants, care and maintenance) Lawncare Propagating plants Use of a range of tools and equipment Health and safety Plant identification English and maths.

Material Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler and eraser. Protective overalls, work gloves and steel toe-capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Practical clothing suitable for the weather conditions necessary at all times. Polo shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase at College.
