Combining a mixture of theory and practical, this is a very hands-on qualification ideally suited to someone who wishes to investigate a career in horticulture and perhaps study further. No previous knowledge is required, but a willingness to learn new skills and develop knowledge of the world of horticulture is needed.

Course Content

Practical horticultural skills
Using machinery, tools & equipment
Introduction to growing, maintaining & protecting plants
Identifying a range of trees, shrubs & plants
Estate maintenance & landscape skills

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade 2/E or above, including English and maths.
Interest and enthusiasm in working in the land-based industries is essential.
Other experience within the land-based industries will also be considered.

Basic stationery: calculator, pens, paper and lever arch files
Suitable outdoor clothing - the clothing must be suitable for environment, weather and time of year
Protective overalls
Steel toe capped work boots
Steel toe capped wellington boots
Hi-vis yellow vest
Tetanus protection is recommended
All protective equipment will be inspected by the Course Manager
