This course has been developed for students interested in working with horses. It is a one year introductory level course that is designed to help you to develop a range of horse care skills.

The work will mainly be practical, with some theory sessions to provide the underpinning knowledge of equine care. Work experience at our yard develops employability skills and an external work placement also strengthens the opportunities to work with industry employers to be actively involved in commercial environments. Guest speakers and visits also enhance the students experience whilst on a study programme with us here at Kingston Maurward. The course supports students wishing to work in this chosen area, it also allows progression on to other qualifications, such as an Intermediate Apprenticeship training programme or Level 2 Technical Certificate in Equine Care.

Feed and water horses
Horse handling
Grooming
Tack and equipment
Functional skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT
Riding and positional work
One week external work placement in industry
