This is an all-round Level 1 introduction to construction skills and will show employers that you have what it takes to get started in the construction industry. You will gain all the instruction, experience and confidence you need to develop your practical skills and progress within the construction industry.

You will build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your knowledge under the guidance of a specialist team of industry experienced tutors.

Units include:
Carpentry and joinery skills
Health and safety
Hand tool maintenance
Plumbing installation and maintenance
Introducing rainwater goods
Renewing and refitting radiators
Brickwork skills
Blockwork skills
Setting out and laying gravel paths
Basic electrical work
Relevant work experience
English and maths.

£50 annual contribution towards materials.

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements however English and maths skills will be assessed at interview for suitability. A keen interest in a career in construction, willingness to learn new skills and undertake practical tasks as well as the ability to work independently and within a team. Basic word processing skills for the production of portfolio evidence. You will be required to undertake work experience. Tetanus protection is recommended.

Materials Required

Basic stationery - pens, pencils, ruler and eraser, A4 lever arch files, calculator. Protective overalls, work gloves and steel toe-capped boots - all protective equipment will be inspected by the course instructor. Practical clothing suitable for the weather conditions necessary at all times. Polo shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase at College.
