Wildlife & Ecology Conservation

Course Title: Foundation Degree in Countryside and Coastal Conservation
Course Code: CM061

Department: Wildlife & Ecology Conservation
Course Type: Full time

The countryside and coastal environments within the UK are under increasing threat and their management requires professionals with the right mix of practical and intellectual skills. The Foundation Degree in Countryside and Coastal Conservation provides the interdisciplinary skills that the countryside professionals of the future need to effectively manage these complex environments. Dorset contains a rich mixture of wildlife habitats including grassland, woodland, wetland and heathland, as well as the internationally acclaimed Jurassic Coast, which is a World Heritage Site. The local marine environment contains important seagrass beds and rare native seahorses. Dorset's heathlands contain all six of the UK's reptiles, including the nationally protected smooth snake and sand lizard, and the county contains the most biodiverse area for plants in the country. This myriad of habitats makes Kingston Maurward College the ideal place to study British wildlife. In addition, the importance of Dorset's wildlife is reflected in the myriad of environmental organisations that are located in the county, which provide work experience with some of the leading scientists, wildlife researchers and habitat management teams in the UK.
