Designed for canoeists and kayakers, this 1 day course aims to provide you with the essential safety and rescue skills needed to operate safely in a sheltered water environment and how to deal with common emergencies. This qualification will build on the basic overview gained through the 2 Star and you will learn new ideas and techniques.



BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue (FSRT)

Course Content

This course covers:
Risks associated with paddlesport and the working environment
Practical ways to manage the risks
Safety features of the crafts being used
Safety features of paddling clothing and other associated equipment
Water and environmental hazards
Use of clear signals
The ability to deal with emergencies
Manual handling issues
Group management
Water-based and bank-based rescues
Self rescue

Entry Requirements

BCU 2 Star or paddling ability at a similar level Ability to swim 25 metres.
