The Children and Young People’s Workforce Apprenticeship gives you a fulfilling opportunity to work with children and young people. It ensures that childcare theory is put into practice whilst gaining an understanding into the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of their development. As an apprentice, the exact nature of your job role will depend on your employer.

The Advanced Apprenticeship enables you to work on your own initiative, plan and organise your own work and/or supervise others. For example, as a nursery nurse, playgroup leader or a child-minder working in your own home.

Entry Requirements

Understand child development Support the holistic development of children Safeguarding and child protection in early years Support children through transitions Plan, lead and evaluate purposeful play activities to support children's learning and development Support the development of reading, literacy and mathematical skills in early years settings Extending children's learning and thinking in early years settings Assessment and observation in early years settings Level 2 English Functional Skills/GCSE and Level 1 Mathematics and ICT Functional Skills/GCSE if required.

Next Steps

There are no formal entry requirements but you will be required to take an English and maths assessment. You will be required to find suitable relevant employment. Mature students will be considered based on previous experience.
