Students Stage Stunning Shoot

The Floral Design department at Kingston Maurward College constantly seeks out inspiring ways to engage students in activities which will allow them to demonstrate the creative skills they have learned during their course.

With this creativity in mind, Kingston Maurward’s Level 3 Floral Design students styled a stunning wedding photoshoot with a rural twist in the spectacular grounds of the College.

Students were tasked to design and create bridal bouquets, accessories and body adornments using a selection of floral materials, creating bespoke and dramatic designs showing the depth of the knowledge they have gained, and the commercial speed required.

To support this project they had access to a professional photographer, Jim Johnson – who goes under the pseudonym Photos by Jim – together with Whitestem Living Tree Hire, and Swingletree vintage china hire whose props helped to stage and style the shoot.

Thanks go to the excellent models for stepping up to the challenge: Scott Lidgett who is studying FdSc Marine Ecology and Conservation at Kingston Maurward, and Leanne Mills, a friend of student Jay Cockett, plus Pandora the Pug!

Course Manager Tracey Nadin said: “The whole project was a great success; the students really  loved being so hands on and directing the models in how they wanted the overall look portrayed, giving them lots of valuable experience and building their confidence.”

The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of directing the style of the images, working with professionals and understanding the technical skills required for such a project. All the images produced will go forward to a final portfolio of their work.
