Kingston Maurward College has launched a brand new fundraising initiative to replace its highly successful annual ‘Muckathon’ muckspreading event which raised thousands of pounds for charities for 15 years.
The new Sow Your Seed event will see Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture students ploughing, muckspreading, cultivating, drilling and sowing maize seed – hence the new name!
This year’s event will raise funds for the Royal Agricultural benevolent Institution (RABI) – a welfare charity which changes lives for the better and offers financial support to farming people in hardship.
The fundraiser – comprising the five elements – will take place over five days starting on Wednesday 25th April. Organisers are appealing to local businesses to donate prizes for a tombola which will take place at Kingston Maurward’s annual Open Day & Food Fair taking place this year on Sunday 24th June.
Agriculture Course Manager, John Lockett, said: “We wanted to update the event to showcase the professionalism of our students and help deserving causes at the same time. The students are very much looking forward to this, and we expect a lot of friendly rivalry between the teams!”
