Jack Winborn – Careers Lead

Prior to joining Kingston Maurward, Jack spent several years working within the field of recruitment and talent acquisition. As our Careers Lead, Jack is responsible for the operational and strategic development and delivery of KMCprepared. This includes working with staff, students, employers, colleges and universities to ensure that all careers education, information advice and guidance prepares young people to make well-informed career and progression choices in their transitions through education, training and employment.

Penny Carey – Careers Advisor

Prior to her role at Kingston Maurward, Penny worked as a Careers Adviser with a wide range of young people in schools, colleges and in the community. Penny has a Diploma in Careers Guidance (Parts 1 and 2) and extensive experience working with students who have special educational needs.

Penny offers independent and impartial careers guidance to students during the academic year, through 121 careers interviews and group sessions. Her broad ranging knowledge of both Kingston Maurward courses and other options including apprenticeships, other Further Education courses, employment and Higher Education helps students to identify the best pathway for them.

Penny always listens without judgement or bias and gives students a safe space in which to discuss their next steps.

Michelle – UCAS Advisor

As a UCAS Advisor, Michelle helps students that want to apply for higher education. She knows the buzzword ! (this is part of the UCAS process!) and can help students get registered and start the online application process.

Michelle will also proofread and give feedback on personal statements if requested.

If you’re thinking of applying to university or onto move onto higher education, Michelle can always be found in the LRC where you can pop in and see her anytime.

Aimee – SUN Progression Mentor

Aimee’s role involves supporting Uni Connect students and delivering the aims of the Uni Connect programme by supporting students in their progression towards Higher Education. Aimee assists students through 1:1 mentoring, raising aspirations, information about student finance, advice about where to study and organising external trips or guest speakers.

Based in the Careers Common Room (next to the Coach House Café) the Careers Team operate an ‘open office policy’ which means students are welcome anytime! The Careers Team are always here to help.

The Careers Team are supported in their roles by:

Nicky Porter, Assistant Principal Student Experience and Progression. Nicky has worked at Kingston Maurward for several years across a number of different departments within the College. She is incredibly passionate about supporting students and has extensive safeguarding knowledge and experience implementing processes that keep our students safe. Nicky always has the students’ best interests at heart.

Nicola Newman is the College’s Link Governor for Careers. Nicola’s background is in careers and employability, and her insight into the world of work is invaluable in her contribution to careers delivery at the college.

The College receive external support from an Enterprise Co-ordinator. They are employed by Dorset Council and are part of the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership. Their role is supported by the Careers and Enterprise Company. They regularly meet with our Careers and Industry Lead to support our mission to achieve the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks.

We also have an Enterprise Advisor. This voluntary role helps to connect the College with local employers who wish to collaborate with us on a variety of projects.
