An Evening with Sam Griffiths at Kingston Maurward Equestrian Centre

Posted on January 28, 2016 by Kingston Maurward

Kingston Maurward Equestrian Centre will be proudly hosting an evening with international event rider Sam Griffiths on Friday 5th February.

The Dorset-based winner of Badminton Horse Trials in 2014 will be discussing his career to date and his plans for the future, give a demonstration and training advice.

Sam has made a career for himself in the UK as an International Event Rider having moved from his native Australia in 1995. He trained and worked as a backup rider for double Olympic gold medallist, Matt Ryan, for three years where he had the opportunity to train and compete in all levels of event horses.

After leaving Matt’s base, Sam established his own team of horses and has since been short listed for the Athens and Beijing Olympics, finished 5th in the HSBC Classics for 2009 (a world ranking system for which points can be accumulated at the world’s four biggest three day events) and was a member of the Australian Team for both the 2010 World Championships in the USA and the London 2012 Olympics, with one of his top horses, Happy Times.

In 2014 Sam was ranked ninth in the World Rider Rankings, was on the Australian Elite Squad and also part of the Australian Team for the 2014 World Equestrian Games in France with his Badminton 2014 winner Paulank Brockagh.

Sam and his wife Lucy – who also competes at top level eventing – run the team together from their yard on the Dorset/Somerset border. Sam now has a team of young international horses with big futures supported of course by stalwarts Happy Times and Paulank Brockagh. Sam’s sympathetic approach to training the young horse and rider have meant he is sought after in many countries for training days and lecture demonstration.

The event takes place 6pm-9pm Friday 5th February – tickets cost £10 in advance or £15 at the door – to book please call 01305 215135 or email Julie.Rickman@kmc.ac.uk.
