As with many organisations the Kingston Maurward Association has had an uphill struggle to maintain interest in its activities. This is generally affected by a number of factors which includes the following:
- The College ha a vastly greater spread of teaching disciplines that its original core activity of agriculture and horticulture.
- There is a much greater reliance now on home entertainment and communications using social media.
- The original membership base has now diminished as a result of the age factor and
The 27th Annual Ploughing match was held on Saturday 13 February 2016. 33 entrants took part on a wet and windy day! The AGM and Memorial Presentation to Freddy Fieldsend on Friday 3 July 2015. It was a lovely evening and we all just about managed to get home before the thunder and lightening started!
Sally Thomas, Freddys daughter, joined us to carry out the 'unveiling' of a seat and planting of a tree in memory of her father.
The seat was placed in the formal gardens and the tree planted in the 'Island Plot'
KMA, with the Fieldsend family, will be unveiling the Freddy Fieldsend memorial bench on Friday 3rd July 2015 at 7.30pm, following the KMA AGM. There will also be the planting of a memorial tree in the grounds of Kingston Maurward College. If you would like to attend please meet in the Main Hall of Kingston Maurward House at 7.30pm. The ceremony will be followed by drinks and light refreshments, and an opportunity for a catch up!
A very successful Ploughing Match was held on Saturday 14 February 2015.
47 entrants took part with the Principal of the College, Clare Davison, presenting the prizes to the following overall winners:
