Ideal for those new to canoe and kayak coaching, this paddlesport qualification is not discipline specific and is therefore suitable to coaches who wish to work with paddlers from any of the competitive and non-competitive paddlesport disciplines. You will learn how to plan, deliver and review coaching sessions, safe working practices, how to develop working relationships with participants and much more. As a Level 1 Coach you will be able to teach basic skills in any type of kayak or canoe and can assess the BCU Paddlepower and Paddlesport ‘Star’ awards.

Course Content

This 4 day course covers:-
Preparing coaching activities - taking into account participants' needs and motives
Establish a safe working environment
Deliver prepared activities
Establish working relationships with participants and others
Prepare participants for the coaching activities
Support participants' behaviour
Conclude the activities
Evaluate the effectiveness of coaching activities
Evaluate the effectiveness of personal coaching practice
Manage effective and appropriate bank and water-based rescues
Lifting, carrying and launching
Readiness

Entry Requirements

You will need to: Register with the BCU and obtain a log book before the course Hold the BCU 2 Star Canoe & Kayak Award Training & Assessment (OR091) Hold the BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue for Canoes & Kayaks (OR092) Have a current First Aid Certificate.
