MIAS Mountain Bike Leader Levels 1 and 2 for Technical Terrain is a 2 day course incorporating the Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications which enable you to lead groups into open country, with the potential hazards that come with such terrain. With these qualifications you will be able to lead groups in most areas of the UK where access allows and where you will be able to operate within 20 minutes of cycling assistance. This also includes red level forest trail routes. The course will focus on leadership skills, bike handling skills and cycle maintanence.

You will be assessed over the 2 days and may achieve either Level 1 or 2 by the end of the course.

MIAS Level 2 Mountain Bike Leader / Instructor Qualification

Course Content

The combined Level 2 training and assessment takes place over 2 days and is based from Kingston Maurward's Outdoor Adventure Centre.

Day 1 covers risk assessments and legal issues, safe cycle checks and basic maintenance, personal and group equipment, personal riding skills and group management relating to the leadership of groups in the outdoors.

Day 2 covers weather, Level 2 personal riding skills, personal coaching of individuals and navigation whilst on route. There is also a theory paper to complete on Mountain Bike general knowledge.

The Level 1 Mountain Bike Leader/Instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of individuals in non-technical terrain (forest tracks, canal towpaths, etc.,).

The Level 2 Mountain Bike Leader/Instructor qualification is aimed at those who wish to lead groups of individuals in technical and demanding terrain.

Entry Requirements

Mountain biking experience.
