The two year Level 3 Military Preparation Course (MPC) is designed to give you skills and understanding of what is required to enter the uniformed public services. This course would suit someone who is looking to enter higher education as part of their progress into the military services.

This course is a combination of academic, practical and vocational and all students will take part in a variety of activities such as team building, military skills, fitness training and outdoor adventure. You will experience hands on delivery by participating in military camps and receiving training from different regiments within the military services, and through fitness training and personal development this course will give you the necessary skills to fly through the first stages of the armed forces recruitment and training.

As well as gaining a clear insight into military life and the necessary skills to pass all the Tri Service selection processes, you will be studying a Level 3 BTEC Public Services qualification which will give the academic skills to progress into higher education.

Course Content

Year 1 units include:
Government policies and the public services
Citizenship, diversity and the public services
Leadership and teamwork in the public services
Physical preparation, health and lifestyle for the public services
Understanding discipline in the uniformed public services
Command and control in the uniformed public services
Practical team sports.

Year 2 units include:
War and conflict
International perspectives for the uniformed public services
Outdoor and adventurous expeditions
Crime and its effects on society
Planning for and management of major incidents
Uniformed public services employment
Communications and technology in uniformed public services.

In addition the course will include:
Outdoor adventure, navigation, kayaking, climbing, personal and team challenges
Expeditions
Military work experience at RNAS Yeovilton (potentially with flying experience with the Commando Helicopter Unit)
Military skills
Fitness training
Functional Skills
First aid
Weapons handling
Camps/base visits.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at minimum grades 3/D, including English and maths or equivalent. You will need a high level of enthusiasm for a career in the Armed Forces, enjoy outdoor adventure pursuits and need to complete a work placement.
