If you want to work with horses, then this is the course for you. It is structured to allow you different routes into the equine industry.
The course offers the perfect balance between theory and practical based learning. It is a two year course and is equivalent to three 'A' levels which can lead to entry into Higher Education.
British Horse Society training is offered as an integral part of your course (Exam fees not included)
This exciting course ensures you can leave Kingston Maurward College with internationally recognised qualifications.
Work experience is included in both years, which allows you the chance to gain valuable experience with a wide range of specialist work providers. Many students have secured jobs through their work experience.
The course runs 4 days a week with lectures, practical sessions and work experience on our yard. There are visiting speakers and visits to a variety of equine establishments. There is also a study tour (additional cost involved) and, where possible, trips to Badminton Horse Trials, Olympia etc. may be arranged (additional cost involved).

Course Content

Year two includes a study tour and organising your own show and has more specialist units to assist you in achieving your career goals:

- Undertake and review work related experience in the land-based industries
- Understand the principles of animal anatomy and physiology
- Prepare and care for competition horses
- Understand the principles of horse rehabilitation and therapy
- Business management in the land based sector
- Undertake equestrian teaching
- Contribute to managing an equine event
- Riding horses on the flat
- Riding horses over fences
- Training towards BHS exams (exam fees not included)

Entry Requirements

Completion of the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Horse Management. English Language. The Equine Centre has a weight limit of 85kg (13 stones 5llbs) for all riders.
