This course provides the knowledge and skills needed by the modern farm worker who may be aspiring to be a craftsperson or take supervisory responsibility. It will develop key practical skills. All learners considering this course are encouraged to contact the Course Tutor to discuss the programme.
For the L3 Diploma option:-
It is essential that you have access to jobs involving livestock and crop production in order for practical assessments to be completed in the workplace.

C & G Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture (Mixed Farming) OR College Certificate in Mixed Farming

Course Content

This is a 27 day course taught over 8 months that covers:
Livestock production: breeding, parturition, raising youngstock, feeding, housing, production systems, grassland management, health, waste management
Crop production: Crop husbandry, cultivation, growth, harvesting and storage and unwanted vegetation
Mechanisation: Getting the most out of modern farm machinery
Keeping the necessary records and meeting legislative requirements
The course includes practical skills development, including training towards the City & Guilds (NPTC) Certificate of Competence in Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines (the assessment fee for this qualification may be extra) and the option to complete C & G (NPTC) Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1 and PA2) - fees will apply.

Entry Requirements

Must have achieved either L2 Diploma Work Based Agriculture or L2 Diploma in Agriculture and 1 year full time industry experience, or 3 years full time industry experience if no formal qualifications, L2 Agricultural tractor driving i.e. related operations (Tractor Driving Competency). Maths GCSE C Grade English language GCSE C Grace or L1 Functional Skills
