The 90 Credit Diploma in Outdoor Adventure is suited to the outdoor enthusiast who enjoys a practical approach to learning and is looking to progress into further education or employment.

By specialising in outdoor and adventurous activities and coaching, this course is particularly suited to those who also aspire to work in the exciting sports/outdoor adventure industry.

The programme includes written assignments and classroom work alongside the practicals, so the ability to work to deadlines is crucial. There is also an opportunity to take part in and experience expeditions and additional practical qualifications.

This course forms the first year of the two year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Outdoor Adventure. Successfully completing the 90 Credit Diploma will allow you to fast track directly into the second year of the Level 3 Extended Diploma and complete a higher qualification.

Course Content

Units Include:

Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport, the physiology of fitness, sports nutrition, assessing risk in sport, leadership in sport, skills for land based outdoor and adventurous activities, skills for water based outdoor and adventurous activities, work experience in sport.

Practical content includes:
Climbing, mountain biking, caving, bush craft, navigation, paddlesport (kayaking & canoeing), ropes course, archery, orienteering (including competitions), personal training (gym) and team sports.

You will also have the opportunity to gain other Awards throughout the course:
BCU/UKCC Paddlepower, 1 or 2 Star Award
BCU/UKCC Foundation Safety & Rescue (FSRT)
BCU/UKCC Level 1 Paddlesport Coach Training & Assessment
Climbing Wall Award
RYA Sailing course Level 1
First Aid qualification
Mountain Biking Instructor Training & Assessment (MIAS)

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and maths OR Level 2 Diploma at Merit level plus functional skills at Level 2 You will need a proven enthusiasm and experience in outdoor adventure You will be required to complete a work placement.
