This exciting course offers you the opportunity to develop your interests and skills in caring for a wide variety of animals and their varying environments whilst preparing you for employment or progression to further courses.
This course contains a mix of lectures, demonstrations and practical work aimed to give you a more indepth understanding of biology and behaviour PLUS one day a week work experience at an animal related organisation.

Course Content

Unit include:
Animal health and welfare
Animal feeding and accommodation
Animal behaviour and handling
Undertake work-related experience in land-based industries
Animal breeds and grooming
The principles of animal biology
British wildlife species, habitats and rehabilitation
Caring for exotic animals
English and maths

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above (including English Language, maths and science) OR minimum GCSE Grade D/3 and Level 1 Functional Skills. A genuine interest in animals, willingness to learn and the ability to cope with written work in a classroom environment is essential and recent experience of working with animals is required. A work placement for 1 day a week in an animal establishment must be secured. You must be prepared to work outside in all weathers with a wide range of animals.
