This one year course is designed for those that have some experience of equitation and horse care and is an ideal introduction for school leavers wishing to pursue a career working with horses.

Kingston Maurward College has excellent facilities and well qualified staff which combine to develop your knowledge and skills, equipping you for a rewarding career in the equine industry.
Included in the course is practical instruction, theory sessions and work experience on our own yard where students gain plenty of practical experience.
As a British Horse Society examination centre, we encourage students to take relevant exams and course content is applicable to the BHS exam system. Additional costs apply and applications should be made direct to the BHS.
Where possible, trips to Badminton Horse Trials etc. may be arranged (additional cost involved). There are also visiting speakers and visits to a variety of equine establishments.

Course Content

Units include:
Understand the Principles and Carry out Feeding and Watering Horses
Undertake Routine Stable Duties
Undertake Horse Handling
Fit and Maintain Horse Tack and Clothing
Maintain Animal Health and Welfare
Understand the Principles of Horse Biology
Undertake Work Experience in the Land Based Industry

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English, maths and science OR successful completion of a Level 1 course in a relevant vocational subject. You must have experience working with horses and lots of stamina, plus a genuine interest and enthusiasm for horses is essential. The Equine Academy has a weight limit of 85kg (13 Stone 5 llbs) for all riders.
