This Couse provides the practical skills and knowledge that will help you gain employment in agriculture. You will acquire a wide range of knowledge, practical skills and industry experience from both your studies and work experience on a local farm. The course includes husbandry of crops, livestock, estate skills, farm machinery operation and maintenance.

Employment prospects for qualified and experienced young people with the right attitude are excellent as the industry is experiencing a skills shortage. The course is specially designed to develop practical skills and produce students who are able to operate machinery and look after livestock and crops to a high standard.

The Level 2 Diploma is the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at Grades A*-C.

Course Content

Units include:
- Farm animal production
- Forage crop production
- Estate maintenance
- Land-based machinery operation (including tractor driving)
- Environmental and land-based business
- Work-related experience
- Functional skills in numeracy and literacy will also be developed
- The level will depend upon your qualifications at entry.

Additional qualifications that are available include the C&G (NPTC) Certificate of Competence in Tractor Driving and Related Operations. First Aid and Manual Handling are also taught. Much of the training towards these qualifications is included within the course and in most cases only assessment fees need to be paid by students wishing to achieve these additional qualifications.

Mon, Tues, Wed in College plus Thursday and Friday doing work experience on a farm.

Entry Requirements

Interest and enthusiasm in farming and the countryside and the ability to cope with written work, minimum Entry Level 3. 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and Maths OR successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant vocational subject. Some farming experience before commencing the course is essential.
