Course Title: Level 1 – Welding, Fabrication & Blacksmithing
Course Code: AG212



This one year course will introduce and develop skills in welding, fabrication and blacksmithing and provide a sound introduction to working with metals.

You will study for a City & Guilds Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Level 1 qualification and a City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering. Those who successfully complete this Level 1 course to a high standard are able to progress into the second year of the course to study the City & Guilds Level 2 qualifications in PEO and Certificate in Engineering.

A final craft item is produced and shown at the College Open Day.

Course Content

Units include:
- Arc and MIG welding
- Fabrication
- Introduction to TIG welding
- Introduction to gas cutting
- Safe use of tools
- Use of the forge
- Blacksmithing tools
- Functional skills in numeracy and literacy
- First aid and manual handling are also included
- One day of work experience is an essential part of the course

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE grades at E or above, including Design Technology. Mature applicants should contact the Course Manager to discuss the entry requirements.
