Whether you are just starting out, or already working in the exciting and worthwhile field of horticulture, this course offers a great opportunity to improve practical skills and to gain valuable underpinning knowledge, all within the grounds of our outstanding Grade 2 historic gardens at Kingston Maurward.

You can choose to follow one of three pathways: Amenity Horticulture, Hard Landscaping or Sports Turf (including Greenkeeping). The completion of your portfolio will typically take 12-18 months.



Diploma in Work-based Horticulture (QCF)

Course Content

Promotion of Health and Safety, including First Aid
Plant identification
Ground preparation and establishing plants/seeds in soil
Horticultural machinery.

Specialist units may cover:
Amenity Horticulture: Establishing decorative areas, pruning and maintaining plant health
Hard Landscaping: Levelling, creation of structures or surfaces and fencing
Sports Turf: Maintaining, renovating and repairing sports turf areas and tractor driving

Entry Requirements

Ability to achieve a Level 1 in English and maths. You will be required to find suitable relevant employment.
