Department: Agriculture
Course Type: Full time

Due to the multitude of challenges facing the agricultural industry and an increasing awareness of the relationship between farming, food production, tourism, the environment and rural affairs, there is currently a shortage of highly skilled and qualified professionals within the industry. This degree programme will prepare you for a career in agriculture, by combining applied scientific and research skills with an in-depth knowledge of livestock technology and crop science. Furthermore, it will support the Government’s commitment to agriculture through its Agri-Tech Strategy.

You will develop a scientific understanding of the nutrition, physiology, behaviour, health and welfare of farm production animals and the impact that their environment has on them. You will also learn about crop science and productivity at a genetic, field and farm level. You will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to apply scientific knowledge and innovative technology to optimise crop and animal production and develop an understanding of the issues affecting sustainable agriculture at both a global and UK level.

In addition to the theoretical components of the programme, this degree will include a significant practical element, including a compulsory work experience placement. There will be an opportunity for you to enhance both your practical skills and future employability by gaining additional industry recognised qualifications and you will develop practical skills in the use and application of sustainable and novel agricultural technologies.
