If you like working outside and your strengths are more practical-based, an Agricultural Apprenticeship could be for you. Each workplace is different so you may be working with different breeds of cattle, sheep or pigs, or carrying out a variety of tractor tasks depending on your job. Your college day is split between theory and practical and you will learn about how and why farming works in certain ways. This is real work where you will learn teamwork in the food production industry of this country. At the advanced level this course provides the knowledge and understanding required for the modern dairy worker. It will also introduce and develop key practical skills. All learners considering this course are encouraged to contact the course tutor to discuss the programme.
Your progress will be regularly monitored and practical skills will be assessed in the workplace. Your knowledge is tested and you will be expected to update your electronic portfolio.

Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture (Livestock Production)

Course Content

Milking
Selecting breeding stock
Rearing young stock
Controlling health and disease, including lameness
Maintaining fertility
Feeding dairy cows
Keeping necessary records and meeting legislative requirements
Housing and waste management

English and maths will be developed based on your diagnostic assessment and the requirement of the apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

Intermediate Apprenticeship in Agriculture OR Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture and 1 year full time industry experience. English language and maths GCSE Grade C/4 OR Level 1 Functional Skills and be willing to achieve Level 2 English and maths Functional Skills. If you have no formal qualifications, 3 years full time industry experience plus Level 2 Agricultural Tractor Driving i.e. related operations (Tractor Driving Competency) and be willing and able to achieve Level 2 English and maths Functional Skills.
