This Apprenticeship is for those who wish to gain a broad, but solid foundation to allow them to follow a career in the outdoor sector or in the leisure industry as fitness activity leaders and coaches.

In the outdoor industry, apprentices work with groups in relatively safe and often controlled environments.

In active leisure, roles will tend to be more of a community focus and apprentices are employed as activity leaders or sports coaches in community sports centres.

Course Content

There are 4 pathways: Outdoors, Leadership, Coaching and Exercise & Fitness.

Depending on your pathway, units can include:

Plan, deliver and conclude sessions
Support the work of the team
Check and service activity equipment
Contribute to environmental conservation.
Anatomy & Physiology
Principles of Coaching Sport
Support development of sports and activity.

Learners may also be able to undertake specialist qualifications, including the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing which can lead to REPS registration.

Apprentices will be given the opportunity to gain literacy, numeracy and IT qualifications.

Entry Requirements

GCSEs including English, key or functional skills are desirable You will need a keen interest in a career in this subject, be willing to learn new skills and undertake practical tasks You will be required to find suitable relevant employment for the duration of your apprenticeship.
