Mayor’s Civic Day at Kingston Maurward

Dorchester’s annual mayoral Civic Day was proudly hosted this year by Kingston Maurward College. Mayors from across the county attended, along with guests from both Dorset County Council and Dorset District Council.

Visitors were treated to tours of the formal gardens, state of the art horticulture glasshouses and animal science centre, followed by a three course lunch and presentation about Apprenticeships by Assistant Principal Andy Daw.

The celebrations culminated in the planting of a crab apple tree (Malus Dartmouth) to mark the 25th Anniversary of Horticulture being taught at the College.

Dorchester Mayor Peter Mann said: “It is a great honour to have been asked to plant the tree in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of Horticulture. It celebrates the prosperity of the department and I am delighted to be involved. Let’s hope the tree is here in another twenty five years!”
