image: Jamie all to play forFootball stars of the future are definitely onside at Kingston Maurward College with one youngster already being courted by professional clubs.
 
Jamie Symes has completed a week’s trial at Blackpool and has now been offered trials and scholarships at five other clubs including Bristol Rovers and Huddersfield..
 
The gifted 16-year-old is one of 30 students of the ‘beautiful game’ here on campus studying either a BTEC First Diploma or BTEC National Diploma in Football Studies..
 
Jamie, who played in the youth section at Yeovil FC, is now considering his options. He is on the two-year course..
 
“We have a lot of talented youngsters here giving them training equal to what they would receive at a professional club,” said college lecturer, Andy Harris, who has played for clubs including Liverpool during his 17-year professional career..
 
“In addition to daily training they take part in practical activities to improve their game as well as coaching, refereeing, nutrition, sports injuries, and sport as a business..
 
“We even look at footballers’ lifestyles and the issue of WAGS!”.
 
Jamie says he is overwhelmed by the professional interest in him..
 
“I feel honoured and can’t quite take it all in,” he said. “The college has given me this chance.”.
 
Fellow coach on the courses is Steve Thompson - with more than 20 years experience in the professional game as player and manager..
 
“Our Football Academy brings these youngsters to the attention of key people in the industry helping them to take their first step in their careers,” he said..
 
“Another of our students Adam Taylor has been involved with Dorchester Town. Our students also play in the British Colleges League.”.
 
The courses are free for 16 to 19-year-olds and applications are now being taken for this September..
