World Book Day

Thomas Hardy walk pic 1Horticulture students celebrated World Book Day this week by re- tracing the steps that the young Thomas Hardy would have taken when he attended school in Lower Bockhampton and later in Dorchester.

The celebration included a reading from Desperate Remedies where Cytherea arrived by carriage via the lime avenue at  Knapwater House, film clips of the carol singers in Under The Greenwood Tree and scenes from the 2015 version of Far From The Madding Crowd.

The groups of level 2 and Level 3 learners considered the influences that the environment had on Hardy and how the locations appeared in his stories. The morning concluded with a walk from the Old School House at Lower Bockhamptom along the river Frome towards Dorchester and finished at Stinsford Church where Hardy’s heart is buried.Thomas Hardy Walk 2
