Record 10th Year for KMC Student Charity Muckathon

Student Report

 KMC muckathon cheque presentation 2012

On the 24 April, students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture held the Annual Kingston Maurward College charity Muckathon. To spread, plough and cultivate 24 hectares in 24 hours over 2 days.

200 tonnes of manure was spread on the first day with some dedicated students ploughing on into the early hours until the torrential rain started and wheel spin reached 70%. The rain continued all through the night and the following day. Unfortunately we were instructed from the KMC Farm Manager that we could not continue fieldwork for the remainder of the 24 hour event. Therefore the second day was pressure washing and making sure all machinery was returned spotless to our generous sponsors.

KMC charity Muckathon has been going for 10 years. 2012 saw the best line up of machinery and equipment kindly donated on loan to the event with an estimated value of £1.2 million.

We would like to thank all the 15 companies who kindly contributed to the event by lending out their machinery and to Upton Oil for donating the fuel.

In total a record £2,103 was raised for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance from sponsorship money and a street collection.

Our grateful thanks to all who helped and contributed their time, services and resources.
