 Blacksmith garden screen - college

Our award winning blacksmith, Simon Grant-Jones and his latest masterpiece has featured in the BBC programme ‘The Blacksmith’s Tale’.

Simon says: “The screen was made for Kingston Maurward Gardens as a commission and is to reflect the period of Kingston Maurward House, around 1720.

“It just so happens that this fitted with the programme that the BBC was making on wrought iron.

“Traditional techniques are used throughout and everything is contemporary to the early 18th Century style of working.

“My inspiration for blacksmithing is a man named Robert Bakewell, who was working around 300 years ago.

Simon was named Show Champion with the piece at the North Somerset Show last week and the college hopes to install the new screen during the summer to be enjoyed by visitors to the gardens.

If you are interested in learning blacksmithing skills, why not sign up today to our next part-time course? Or if you are leaving school this year, we still have places on our full-time forgework courses starting this September.
