Introduction

This exciting course is structured to allow you different routes into the equine industry and offers a balance between theory and practical based learning. Successful completion gives you entry into Higher Education or employment. British Horse Society training is offered as an integral part of the course and students are expected to undertake BHS Stages exams. These professional exams equip you to work either in the UK or abroad and are well respected, international qualifications. The course includes work placement opportunities, enabling students to gain valuable skills and experience with a variety of specialist work providers. Careers advice is included and many students have secured jobs through their work experience.

NPTC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Horse Management

Course Length

Four days per week for one year

Course Content

4 days per week for one year. Lectures and practical sessions plus work experience on our yard on a rota basis, guest speakers, visits to a variety of equestrian establishments.

This course consists of units to ensure you have a good understanding of basic horse care:

Understand and promote animal health

Select, fit and evaluate horse and tack equipment

Plan and monitor animal feeding

Undertake stable yard management

Understand animal biology

Understand the principles of horse behaviour and welfare

Working horses from the ground

Riding and exercising horses

Understand the principles of equitation

Training towards BHS exams (exam fees not included)

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade C and above, including Maths, English, Science and one other subject, or a Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care at Distinction Level. Ability to ride towards BHS Stage 1 Level or Pony Club C+ Standard. The Equine Academy has a weight limit of 85kg (13 Stone 5 llbs) for all riders. A non-riding option is available.
