Apprenticeships

link: View our apprenticeshipsOpen to young people aged between 16-24, an Apprenticeship means you can earn while you learn. You can combine hands-on experience in your chosen industry and get paid whilst you’re doing it. Whether you are looking for a job that enables you to carry on learning skills, or you are already in employment and want to gain a further qualification, an Apprenticeship could be the option for you.

As an apprentice, you will spend four days a week out in the  workplace, developing your practical skills. You’ll spend the other day here at the College with our dedicated work-based learning team, understanding the theory and technical skills employers need. As an apprentice you will earn a wage from your employer.Key benefits of being an apprentice include;

  • earning a salary
  • getting paid holidays
  • receiving training
  • gaining qualifications
  • learning job-specific skills

Apprenticeships include the following:

  • An appropriate work-based learning qualification such as a Diploma or an NVQ at Level 2 or 3
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths
  • A technical qualification such as a BTEC or City and Guilds
  • Other qualifications required by your chosen industry

Apprenticeships have been developed in partnership with major employers, and some examples of businesses where we have successful apprentices include:

Reiffer's Reward thanks to Apprenticeship

KINGSTON Maurward College’s top-scoring Sport and Leisure Management apprentice Ben Reiffer has made it into the British Colleges National Football Team.

The full time Apprenticeship programme sees Ben learning a practical coaching role, practising classroom theory and managing equipment.

Mentor and employer, ex Weymouth FC ace Andy Harris, is full of praise for the young star: “Ben only came to us in September but is making a huge impact on the Sport & Leisure Management department already."

Aiming ultimately to become a PE teacher or football coach after his degree course Ben said: “My goal is to play football professionally and then teach others to play."

The Apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to learn all aspects of football management, I would completely recommend it.”
