Our number one priority is putting the learner first in everything we do. Ensuring you get the skills you need to succeed in work and life is crucial.
All learners are provided with high quality teaching, delivered within their chosen vocational subject, where they can develop skills for employment and life. We also pride ourselves on offering balanced information, advice and guidance to all potential and existing students.
Employment Led Curriculum
Vocational routes to higher education and employment are high quality and a genuine alternative to more traditional academic routes.
We support the Department for Education’s aim to ensure all learners achieve the highest level qualification possible and to take one main qualification that is recognised by both employers and universities. We do this by careful Information, advice and guidance during your application process and throughout your study here.
All our full-time study programmes have been designed to maximise the potential of young people to progress to higher education and skilled employment. To achieve this, we ensure they contain the following:
- A substantial qualification – e.g. a City & Guilds or BTEC Level 2 or Level 3 Certificates and Diplomas
- Maths and English to Level 2 (if not already achieved)
- Regular and career appropriate work experience
- Tutorial and enrichment activities
- Progression preparation work
Foundation learners studying at entry levels and level 1 focus on developing personal, social and employability skills.
All learners without a Level 2 maths or English qualification will need to continue studying these subjects. For those with grade D GCSE, that’s likely to be re-sitting GCSE, but those below that level can follow a different pathway towards level 2, e.g. Functional Skills. Learners who have Level 2 maths will be encouraged to take a further maths qualification.
There is a clear link in land-based education with STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics skills. From developing new energy sources and generating high yield crops, to protecting rare species of animals.
It might be a surprise to people just how many different careers within the land-based sector require STEM skills.
Kingston Maurward College offers a wide range of courses which teaches the STEM curriculum and can help young people secure jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering and maths.
