Part-Time Courses

Tuition Fee Remission
Fee remissions are available for certain courses. To find out whether fee remissions apply to this course, please phone the Courses Helpline on 01305 215215 for the latest information.
Tuition fee remission can apply (for certain courses) if you are an EU resident, aged over 19 and in receipt of certain benefits. Proof of benefit must be provided to the college at the time of booking. If you are the unwaged dependant of a person who is in receipt of one of the means-tested benefits to the household, you may also be eligible. The college’s normal definition of a dependent student is someone who is under 25 years of age at 31st August. The eligibility for tuition fee remission is currently being changed for new learners - please contact the Courses Helpline for the latest information.
Please note that Job Seekers Allowance is not accepted for full-time courses, as you will not be available to look for work.
For further information on fee remission, please contact the Courses Helpline on 01305 215215.
Please note that the college has to access funding from the government in order to run certain courses. To do this, there is a requirement for students to complete an exam. We encourage all our students to gain a qualification, but if you do not wish to take the exam it makes the cost of running the course more expensive. Therefore you would be asked to pay the ‘full cost’ price of the course. Fees may be subject to change. Some grants and concessions maybe subject to change.
How To Pay
For your convenience, you can pay in a number of ways
- Debit / Credit card (Not American Express or Diners Club)
- Cash (in person only – please do not post!)
- Cheque or postal orders (made payable to Kingston Maurward College).
If you are aged 19 or over, you will be asked to pay a deposit of £250 when you are offered a place on your course (a certain amount is non-refundable). The remaining amount is paid on your enrolment day. The deposit will be fully refunded should you not wish to progress with your course following price announcements.
All our prices are reviewed each year: any revised costs may apply in your second or third year.
Instalment Option
For courses costing £200-500 there is an option to pay in three equal instalments. The first instalment is to be paid upon offer of place, the second on 1 December and the third on 1 March 2011.
All instalment arrangements are subject to a non-refundable £10 administration fee, and if you have to withdraw from your course before the expected start date all outstanding instalments remain payable.
Refunds will be given only if:
- We have to cancel the course
- We have to make a change to the time or location and you are no longer able to attend
- In exceptional circumstance, at the discretion of our Principal
Sources of Financial Help
Learner Support Fund
The college can help both full- and part-time further education students (following a course of at least 12 guided learning hours per week) with essential course related costs, childcare (learners aged 20 or over) and financial hardship and emergencies. All applications are considered on an individual basis by an independent panel and are subject to you meeting certain conditions.
EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance)
EMA will close to new applicants in England from January 2011. Please contact us about Learner support funds, designed to help students who most need it to continue in learning. If you currently get EMA you will continue to receive it for the rest of this academic year, but you will not receive it next academic year
ALG (Adult Learning Grant )
It's never too late to learn new skills and with the Adult Learning Grant (ALG), you could get up to ?30 per week while you?re studying - letting you focus on getting where you want to be in life.
Money is paid directly into your bank account but you must be studying for your first Level 2 or Level 3 course. You?ll receive up to ?30 per week, depending on your circumstances. There is no upper age limit on taking a Level 2 qualification but the age limit for a Level 3 is 31. Application forms are available from Student Support.
Career Development and Student Loans
These Government-sponsored loans can be used to help with living and other expenses while you study at college. They are repayable after you complete your course. Visit www.direct.gov.uk for more information on Career Development Loans and www.slc.co.uk for further details on student loans for higher education.
Local Authorities and Charities
Your Local Authority may be able to help with tuition fees and other costs for both further and higher education and some charities provide support grants. Visit www.dorsetforyou.com to find your Local Authority or contact Student Support for a list of potential charities.
Rural Business
Are you employed in agriculture or a rural business providing professional services to agriculture? Then you may qualify for a 75 per cent reduction in tuition fees for certain courses that develop your expertise and update your knowledge. Programmes are held at venues across Dorset and can cover finance, technical and husbandry issues, diversification and planning. Please contact us for further details.
Government funding for 19+ learners has been steadily reduced and there is an assumption that for 2010/11, 19+ learners (not entitled to fee remission) should be charged 50 per cent of the cost of their course. This would mean that for most full-time courses, a student would be charged £1,366. However, Kingston Maurward College has taken the decision to keep the price of all full-time courses for 19+ students at just £499!
