Is it right for me?

These courses have proved very popular and successful. They offer the keen amateur or professional gardener the opportunity to study horticultural topics of interest and to work towards a recognised qualification.

What will I be learning about?

There are twelve theory units to choose from:

Growing fruit - Thursday: 16/9/10 - 21/10/10
Sites, soils and cultivation  -  Friday: 17/9/10 - 22/10/10
Weeds, pests and diseases - Thursday: 4/11/10 - 9/12/10
Growing trees, shrubs and hedges  - 5/11/10 - 10/12/10
Propagation of plants - Thursday: 6/1/11 - 10/2/11
Beds and borders - Friday: 7/1/11 - 11/2/11
Growing veg and salad - Thursday: 17/2/11 - 31/3/11
Garden history - Friday: 18/2/11 - 1/4/11 
Organic gardening - Thursday: 28/4/11 - 9/6/11
Garden design- Friday: 29/4/11 - 10/6/11
Lawns, landscapes and structures - Thursday: 16/6/11 - 21/7/11
Ponds and Water Features - Friday: 17/6/11 - 22/7/11
 

 

Each unit consists of 5 weeks of taught material and the 6th week being a short written exam.

What's Required?

Minimum age 16 years. Interest and enthusiasm. Tetanus protection is recommended.

How will I be assessed?

To obtain City & Guilds Certificate in Gardening, students must pass a short written test in 5 theory units.
