Is it right for me?

This two day LANTRA course is designed specifically for the occasional or part−time user: someone who is likely to be using a chainsaw occasionally in a business or domestic situation. The course covers basic maintenance of the machine and its use for cross−cutting timber on the ground. For the professional user it is strongly recommended they use the NPTC route, Unit CS 30.

What will I be learning about?

  • Current health and safety regulations including what protective clothing to wear
  • Basic maintenance of the saw
  • Chainsaw checking
  • Understanding chainsaw safety features
  • Sharpening of the chain
  • Cross−cutting of timber no greater than 15" in diameter
  • Stacking the converted material safely and efficiently

What's Required?

Students must be aged 16 or over on 1st September of the year in which the course starts. No previous practical experience necessary. Tetanus protection is recommended.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous assessment by instructor for duration of course.
