Is it right for me?

This course will give you a thorough understanding of tree climbing and aerial rescue techniques in preparation for NPTC assessment. This is a requirement for anyone who wants to work or already works in the industry. Please note: Assessment is carried out on a separate day by arrangement between the candidate and the appointed NPTC assessor.

What's Required?

Students must be aged 16 or over on 1st September of the year in which the course starts. Tetanus protection is recommended.

Minimum Age : 16

NPTC offers a Forestry Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4 NVQ/SVQ which would be a natural qualification progression for operators wanting to improve their qualifications or moving into supervisory responsibilities.
It would also be a complementary qualification to Level 2/3/4 programmes such as National Certificates, National Diplomas and Higher National Diplomas in land based and other compatible vocational areas, to provide an industrially-recognised certification of the candidates practical ability.

Oral Examination
Practical Examination.

Overal Assessment Method :

All NPTC Certificates of Competence are independently assessed by NPTC approved, trained assessors, who have no vested interest in the outcome of the assessment. This qualification is assessed by one-to-one oral questioning which backs up the practical skills, assessed by observation of the candidates performance. The assessment schedule is attached to this submission, which provides details of the content of te qualification, as well as the marking guide and the standard the candidate must achieve.

Sub Units :

J/101/2449 Climb a Tree

This unit covers the underpinning knowledge of what is involved in a risk assessment and climbing trees, selecting personal protective equipment, performing pre- climb checks, preparing a plan of action, selecting climbing equipment and climbing a tree.

A/101/2450 Conduct Aerial Rescue

This unit covers the underpinning knowledge of risk assessment, emergency procedures, emergency services, general aerial rescue procedures, first aid and recusing a casualty.
