Is it right for me?

Two days of training prepares experienced tractor drivers for the NPTC Foundation Module (PA1) and the Vehicle Mounted Boom Sprayers Module (PA2). The NPTC test will be taken on the third day. Those with PA1 do not need to attend Day 1 - discount available.

The sessions will include theory teaching, practical skills instruction and preparation for the NPTC test.

Experienced at tractor driving

How will I be assessed?

NPTC test that can be arranged at the college or at your own workplace and involves an on−line question and answer test and a practical assessment of spraying. Full support is offered for all parts of the assessment.

Notes

Anyone already holding a PA1 (foundation module) does not need to attend the first day of training.

Summary :

This is a legally required qualification by Chemical Regulatory Directorate for anyone applying pesticides on a commercial basis by a boom sprayer. It is divided into 2 units; PA1 is the foundation unit covering legislation through the Approved Code of Practice for Plant Protection Products. This is assessed by a computer-based multiple choice test (GOLA). Units PA2-13 and SC are specific to the applicator being used, e.g. a boom sprayer, a hand held sprayer.

Progression :

Once candidates have achieved PA1 and an application unit (PA2- 13 and SC), they can continue to achieve further application units to qualify them to use a wider range of machinery and equipment. We have a Level 3 programme run in conjunction with BASIS which is intended for Operators of pesticide application equipment who progress into higher career positions. Also, candidates can progress into work- based programmes at levels 2 and 3.
