No out to pasture for farmersAn agricultural adviser from Kingston Maurward College will play a key role during the pivotal debate at the prestigious Oxford Farming Conference in January.

Katherine Sealy, who works for the Dorset Agricultural Advisory Service (DAAS) at our Dorchester campus, will second Andrew Densham, CBE chairman of RABI in opposing the motion “This house believes that all farmers should retire at 60”.

She has been invited to attend the January 4-6 event as chairman of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committee for the National Federation of Young Farmers.

Katherine has been working for DAAS for more than five years advising Dorset farmers on business planning, diversification and applications including rural land registry mapping and environmental stewardship.

While county chair of Dorset Young Farmers she also set up the south west’s first Dorset Fresh Start Academy, which is now in its third year.

“I feel very honoured to be invited to take part in the conference’s main debate this year to oppose the motion that farmers should retire at 60,” said Katherine.

The Oxford event is the UK farming industry’s main conference and speakers this year include the Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP and Phil Bloomer, Oxfam’s campaign director.
