NEW PRINCIPAL
Published: June 4, 2009
THE NEW principal at the south's leading land−based college hasn't moved far to take up her pivotal post − just down the corridor.
Clare Davison already has eight years under her belt at Kingston Maurward College as deputy principal, and officially starts the top job on June 1.
Mrs Davison has already spoken of her plans to steer the Dorchester campus through further growth and improved results to cement its status as a quality and flexible institution meeting the needs of all learners.
"Kingston Maurward's strategic mission and values are very distinctive and unique, as is its physical setting," said Mrs Davison.
"We are miles away from the image of that 'farm institute'. While agriculture still remains central, we now do so much more. "
"There has been a huge shift in higher education − an increase to 40 per cent of enrolments this coming September. "
"And although the government's 14−19 agenda reforms will be ambitious for this and every college, we are well placed as one of those organisations successful in the bidding process."
"It's an exciting time despite the challenges. Staff here are hugely committed to the college and our students, and this is why Ofsted described our student support as outstanding."
Mrs Davison brings much experience in curriculum development including seven years as head of management and professional studies at Bournemouth & Poole College.
Before that she taught business studies at a selection of Dorset secondary schools and for the county's adult education programme.
Chair of college governors, Reverend Jean Coates, said: "From a very strong field of candidates for principal, Clare more than demonstrated she shares our vision for the college. "
"She has the expertise and determination to deliver a college with a reputation for high quality teaching and learning which is at the heart of our local education and business community."
