These Kingston Maurward College lecturers are in the top one per cent of the country, after achieving a coveted new teaching qualification.
Beverley Johnson and Lesley O’Connell – both teacher trainers on campus – travelled to London to receive their QTLS awards from Kevin Brennan MP, Minister for Further Education, Skills, Apprenticeships and Consumer Affairs.
The QTLS or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills award is specially designed for staff in further education (FE).
Between them Beverley and Lesley have more than 22 years teaching experience. To achieve their QTLS they had to submit a portfolio of teaching practice.
The QTLS is awarded by The Institute for Learning and so far only 111 FE staff out of 192,000 nationally have reached the benchmark.
